Today we take a break from the normal programming, Authentic Thursdays, but only for one week.
About 6 months ago a friend of mine learned his son had leukemia, a very rare form of leukemia. And what has taken place over the past 6 months has been nothing short of a miracle… but today is the day we’ve all been waiting for!
Nearly every morning over the past 4-5 months I have logged in to http://www.caringbridge.org to read the updates on Des and the supporting notes from friends and family and local acquaintances! Watching the outpouring of love and support and prayers has been beyond heart-warming. This has been the definition of community…
Well, today, April 24 is the day… today is “Day Zero” for Des. Meaning, today Des receives a long-awaited, well prepared / prayed for and much needed bone marrow transplant!!!
Today I stand behind (albeit virtually), with so many in the local community, the Geller family as they watch and wait. We are so proud of how Des has tackled, in his own sweet but snarky “I-don’t-care-what-you-say-I’m-gonna-kick-this-thing-to-the-curb” kind of way. So fierce! What an inspiration to the rest of us…
Many treatments, and sleepless nights, and talks with doctors and specialists, and piles of paperwork, and social media updates, and red-tape, and trips back and forth to Rady Children’s Hospital (and thankfully the Ronald McDonald House) … and it’s here. Today Des receives the long-awaited bone marrow transplant! (Needless to say, the Geller family is beyond grateful for the unrelated matching donor in Germany!!!)
So I ask… will you stand with me today? Will you stand with the Geller family and friends today as we virtually circle around them in prayer? Our hearts would be forever grateful…
“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well…” James 5:15a
Welcome to my blog… where I humbly offer random thoughts, personal growth insights, failed and successful cooking recipes, silliness by way of Crazy Lori Stories, some crafty goodness every now and then and info on other things that I am passionate about.
As a Christian I believe that we were each created with unique gifts and a specific purpose, to worship Him in how we live… from our dreams, to what we create and how we inspire others just by being ourselves… Lori
On February 25, 2014, while driving home from work, Sgt. Joseph Horton was struck by a car that pulled out in front of him. Joseph was thrown 50 feet from his motorcycle and sustained massive internal injuries. He was life-flighted to a nearby Trauma Center and immediately taken into surgery to stop the bleeding and assess the damage.
Now, nearly 3 weeks later (and very fortunate to be alive) he is still in very critical condition. Please pray for Joseph’s complete recovery.
Today he undergoes another surgery on his arm, and the Doctors are going to again attempt to wean him off of the respiratory ventilator.
Joseph is the son of my good friends Bob and debi Horton. And when I see my friends hurt, I simply cannot control the tears. My heart breaks for their broken hearts… but we stand with them in HOPE that God is on their side.
Several things the Horton family believes in:
The power of Prayer;
Miracles still happen;
Loving and supporting their family members; and
God is sovereign and has a plan to use even THIS for His glory!
Thank you for keeping Joseph in your prayers. Please include his wife Angel and their two children in your prayers as well.
If it helps, this is how we’re praying:
Divine wisdom and courage for the Doctors and Surgeons currently working on Joseph;
Complete healing of all internal and external trauma;
Favor in the eyes of the decision makers for the potential move to the Walter Reed Medical Center, where he can continue healing and have access to amazing technology and knowledge to help with physical therapy; and
Financial needs will be met 100%
If you would like to know how to help in a tangible way, you can make a donation to the Horton family via Go Fund Me. The funds will be used towards normal living expenses, travel and food expenses while their life has been turned upside down… click here: GoFundMe
Thank you for supporting Joseph… whatever that looks like for you!
Here I am before You, falling in love and seeking Your truth
Knowing that Your perfect grace has brought me to this place
Because of You I freely live, my life to You, oh God, I give
So I stand before You, God
I lift my voice cause You set me freeSo I shout out Your name, from the rooftops I proclaim
That I am Yours, I am Yours
All the good You’ve done for me, I lift up my hands for all to see
You’re the only one who brings me to my knees
To share this love across the earth, the beauty of Your holy worth
So I kneel before You, God
I lift my hands cause You set me free
So I shout out Your name, from the rooftops I proclaim
That I am Yours, I am Yours
All that I am, I place into Your loving hands
And I am Yours, I am Yours
Here I am, I stand, with arms wide open
To the One, the Son, the Everlasting God
I would highly recommend anything Beth has written. Having read two of these books (Breaking Free and When Godly people do ungodly things) and attending a couple of her conferences there is one word I can use to describe Beth Moore: dynamic!
My brother, just about an hour ago, experienced a once in a lifetime moment… and he just called to brag about it. I have to share it with those who would appreciate it!
My brother lives close to the Hank Haney Golf Ranch in McKinney, TX (just north of Dallas). On his days off he’ll go over to hit a few at the driving range, meet with an instructor, etc. Today he was out with one of the instructors hitting a few. After a few hits he heard a golf cart coming up the path behind him… but it wasn’t the quiet electric kind. It was a gas-powered golf cart… putt, putt, putt…. and usually golf carts stop while someone is getting ready to hit the ball (so as not to be a distraction). My brother realized the golf cart wasn’t going to stop, so he almost stopped so as not to be bothered, but decided since this was instruction he’d use it as a learning moment – thinking to himself “Let’s just see how well I do with this type of noise in the background.”
And he hit it… about 250 feet! This was something to be proud of for a simple guy out to learn a bit more about golf.
Right after the cart passed, his instructor walked back towards him from the other side of the golf path and quietly muttered to my brother “The best golfer in the universe just watched you hit that!” (Stunned….) My brother says “Huh?!” His instructor says…. “Tiger just craned his neck as they drove by to watch your entire swing!” (Stunned…) My brother asks “Tiger Woods?!”
That’s an affirmative…
My brother Loren (the entrepreneurial pilot that he is) immediately started thinking of ways he could talk Tiger into hiring him as his personal pilot – because it’s so much better to have a pilot who is also a golfer, no?! (wink, wink)
